In a world full of noise, distraction, and fleeting moments, finding a partner who brings clarity and stillness is rare. For this couple, their journey from guarded first impressions to a deep, intentional love is a masterclass in what it truly means to build a life together.

For the Heart & Soul feature of Inawo Magazine, we sat down with Mirabel and her partner to talk about the quiet work behind their strong bond , the unlearning, the intentionality, and the transition from wedding-day excitement to a lifetime of partnership.

Beyond First Impressions

Love rarely looks like a fairytale from minute one. When Mirabel first met her partner, PraiseJah Ossai , her defenses immediately went up.

"My first impression about him was crazy," Mirabel laughs. "His appearance deceived me, I thought he was a playboy! I kept telling myself to be careful because he looked like a heartbreaker."

Driven by a mix of curiosity and self-preservation, Mirabel decided to do a little investigation. After speaking with his family, she discovered something unexpected: she was actually the first girl he had ever dated, and he barely spent time chasing women. "Another green flag was that he was very calm, I love calm guys. So I removed 'playboy' from my mind."

PraiseJah was equally captivated by her presence. Reflecting on early moments, he shares: "It was in the way she expressed herself calmly, in the way she showed interest, and the way she returned great energy. The overall feeling of being around her was immensely satisfying."

Finding Calm in the Chaos

Beyond initial attraction, meeting each other brought a profound shift in how both partners viewed themselves and their paths forward.

For PraiseJah, finding Mirabel provided a grounding anchor. "Meeting my partner gave me a direction in life. In a world where a lot of things are going on at the same time, it’s easy to get lost in the crowd and noise. Meeting her introduced a calm, direction, and something worth holding onto."

For Mirabel, the relationship became a mirror, one that challenged her to reflect, mature, and take ownership of her personal growth.

"There were times earlier on when our communication wasn't peaceful," Mirabel admits openly. "I would pick faults in almost everything he did or said, finding ways to take offense. But I realized it wasn't helping us. I had to be honest with myself and change how I approached conversations. Now, our communication is peaceful, mature, and loving. We listen to understand rather than turning every little issue into a problem."

She adds that during hard moments even when doubts crept in, learning to pause and reflect changed everything. "It taught me that before asking, 'Is this relationship working for me?' I also need to ask, 'Am I doing my part to make this relationship work?'"

An Intentional Bond the Outside World Can't See

From the outside, onlookers see a happy couple heading toward the altar. But behind closed doors lies an intricate web of quiet efforts, misunderstandings worked through, and hard choices.

"An onlooker wouldn't understand the dynamics and the efforts we have put in to understand ourselves," PraiseJah notes. "They might not understand the decisions we’ve made, but no one should know your partner more than you do. That private understanding is why the bond grows."

Mirabel echoes this sentiment: "Our love isn't perfect, it’s intentional. Outsiders don't see the depth of what we've had to learn about each other, the apologies, the forgiveness, or the times we've had to check ourselves."

When the High Dials Down

Every couple reaches a stage where the initial rush settles into routine. For Mirabel and PraiseJah, that's where true love actually begins.

"The hardest part of every relationship is when the high dials down and the excitement fades a little," PraiseJah shares. "That's when relationships get tested. It takes real love, commitment, and the willingness to put in extra effort to keep the flame burning. You hold on to what brought you together while creating new reasons to love this person."

Mirabel agrees, noting that true commitment isn't dependent on fleeting feelings: "Keeping the flame burning isn't about everything always feeling exciting. It's about being intentional enough to keep choosing each other, even when the feeling changes."

The Wedding is a Day, The Marriage is a Lifetime

As they prepare to step into marriage, neither is distracted by just the ceremony. Their eyes are fixed firmly on the life that comes after the vows are spoken.

"It has dawned on me that this is a lifetime commitment of understanding, love, and patience," PraiseJah reflects. "There will be tough times, even more than what we've faced before, so it takes extra effort to navigate the waves and ride happily in the calm sea."

For Mirabel, the true excitement lies in the journey ahead: "The realization that after the wedding, the real work begins, that’s what feels most real. I've chosen someone to build my life with, someone to grow with, play with, and someone I'll learn and unlearn for. The wedding is the celebration, but the marriage is the life we've chosen, the life we're choosing, and the life we're going to keep choosing every day."

A Heart & Soul Reflection

True love isn't found in the absence of conflict or the permanence of butterflies; it is built in the deliberate choices made when the music stops playing and daily life sets in. Mirabel and PraiseJah Ossai remind us that a lasting union isn't something you simply fall into, it is a structure crafted by two people who are humble enough to learn, brave enough to apologize, and devoted enough to choose each other over and over again. As they stand on the threshold of forever, their story serves as a gentle reminder to us all: the most beautiful love stories aren't written by chance, but painted stroke by intentional stroke, with a heart willing to stay and a soul willing to grow.
